xpatofthemind Out of all Ilhan Ersahin's projects, the Istanbul Sessions series are my favorite. Alp Ersonmez's bass and keyboard work, Turgut Alp Bekoglu's drum kit and Izzet Kizil's darbuka and other percussion put driving wheels under every track. Their latest studio release is polished and powerful, with Ersahin alternating between strong, simple horn work and soaring solos. As with all their earlier releases, this album is a tasty middle Eastern take on world jazz fusion.
